The news you have been waiting for has finally arrived! Cue drumroll, Andrew! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
We're officially announcing our partnership with Elaine Brown and her organization, Oakland and the World Enterprises!
We're proud to support the Black Panther, a 100% affordable housing building that will also house community resources and cooperatively-owned businesses – all in the pursuit of advancing models of Black community wealth and self-determination and, ultimately, building a pathway to economic freedom. We're talking about a grocery store offering fresh produce, a community-run garden, and even a fitness center with all-ages programming.
Black Lives Matter just donated $1 million to this housing project. It embodies what we've
constantly been fighting for – a holistic, care-centered approach to addressing public safety. For us, by us.
Capitalism and white supremacy have upheld and emphasized a system of punishment. Think about it…Why do we criminalize people for living on a street or park? Why is our response to substance abuse or a mental health crisis incarceration?
The Black Panther Building challenges these norms by offering concrete, alternative solutions for our communities. Now, we're not just demanding something different – we're offering a version of what "different" can look like.
The $1 million grant underscores a collective commitment to nurturing safe and supportive environments for Black communities in Oakland, a city with deep roots in the fight for Black liberation and justice. By focusing on housing, re-entry programs, upskilling, cooperative economic models, and access to fresh, healthy food, this project directly addresses the critical needs of Black communities in Oakland, offering real solutions and a model pathway toward Black liberation.
The Black Panther Building is a testament to the awe-inspiring legacy of the Black Panther movement and Elaine Brown's relentless pursuit of justice and equity for Black people. Chip in now to split a donation between BLM and Oakland and the World Enterprises to invest in the Black Panther building and help us fund other critical Black liberation initiatives >> In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
